About the Author
Bob Farr is director of congregational excellence in the Missouri Conference of The United Methodist Church. Frequent speaker and seminar leader, he is also the author of Get Their Name and Renovate or Die: 10 Ways to Focus Your Church on Mission, both co-authored with Kay Kotan, published by Abingdon Press.
Doug Anderson is executive director of the Rueben Job Center for Leadership Development at Dakota Wesleyan University. Following several successful pastorates in the North Indiana Conference, he has consulted churches and led workshops for 20 years, and is well known throughout the North Central Jurisdiction. He is also an author, The Race to Reach Out: Connecting Newcomers to Christ in a New Century was published in 2004.
Kay Kotan is a credentialed coach, church consultant, speaker and author. She serves on the Healthy Church Initiative Executive Team for the Missouri Annual Conference of the UMC. Kay resides in Kansas City, Missouri with her husband, Bob and son, Cameron.

Good, but not quite great

Amazingly clear thought processes and writing. This book can be used by any church group to get people thinking outside of the traditional "Churchy" ways of doing business. It argues in a compelling way for building relationships outside of our comfort zones and outside of our congregations if we hope to survive.
My only struggle is that it occasionally stoops to the numbers game as justification for reaching out to those outside of the church. "We need more people, so that is why we need to do this." I would argue that we need to meet people where they are because Jesus did not wait in the Temple or Synagogue for people to come to him but went to where the "sinners" of his day hung out. His followers must do the same to follow faithfully.

Another Great Book

This is a great look at how to INTENTIONALLY be about the business of Evangelism. If every church would ask the most important question this book asks. "What is out Strategy to connect un-connected people to Christ. Really nothing all that new here but presented in a great and fresh way. I dare every UMC to study this book together and then change.

Good Overview for Church Growth

This book provides a simple plan for evangelism that any church can follow, no matter it's size. It is written in clear, easy to understand language, and provides links to and titles of other helpful resources. It is a good overview for how to grow a church in the 21st century.
