About the Author
Before his appointment as Executive Director: Churches in Mission for the UK Evangelical Alliance, Dr. Krish Kandiah was the Director of the Oxford Centre for Christian Apologetics and also Tutor in Mission and Evangelism at Wycliffe Hall. He was also a member of the Oxford University Theology faculty. Krish has worked with students in the UK with Universities and Colleges Christian Fellowship and in Albania with the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students, before becoming pastor of a multi-cultural church in Harrow. He is still a regular speaker at university missions and has wide experience in evangelism and cross cultural mission. He is a regular speaker at Spring Harvest and is in demand as a speaker and lecturer. Krish is passionate about helping the church relate relevantly and faithfully to contemporary culture and about global, multi-cultural and church-based mission.

Cheerio and Best Wishes is told entirely through the letters he wrote to his family and friends. Detailed narrative and commentary provide explanation and background information.

One hundred thirty-eight letters are presented in this book. It is highly unusual to find this many letters from one person, curated by his family and recently rediscovered by his son, along with carefully created photograph albums. The story starts in rural southern Indiana and follows the young volunteer as he goes westward to California and New Mexico to be trained to fly bombers. From the United States, he travels via South America and North Africa to England and deploys with the Eighth Air Force. The accounts of his journeys and experiences are detailed, ranging from entertaining to spine-tingling. Moments of high drama intermingle with the mundane nature of war.

Together the letters and pictures in this book (the originals are now preserved for posterity in the Purdue University Flight Archives) offer a comprehensive and cohesive story of how US airmen were prepared and trained for war, and detail the daily experience of a bomber pilot flying missions over Germany. The letters of one young flyer reflect the experience of thousands of Americans who volunteered to go to war in the 1940s. His experiences were those of a generation.

About the Author
In 1941, Ralph H. Schneck was a young man working for a grocery distributor in Evansville, Indiana. When the world erupted in war, it threw Ralph and thousands like him into military service. Ralph excelled in every aspect of his training, becoming a respected lead pilot in the Eighth Air Force. After a short period of civilian life, he was recalled to active duty and served in the US Air Force for twenty-five years before retiring.Don R. Schneck was born during his father's short civilian career and raised on Air Force bases until he graduated from college. He worked in business and industry for over forty years, living in the Midwest and Eastern United States. After writing marketing and promotional material for most of his career, he also has turned to writing in his retirement. Cheerio and Best Wishes is his first nonfiction work.

A view of the life of a WW2 pilot

This book adds a flavor to the writings of many World War 2 authors that is seldom mentioned in their books. This is a compilation of beautiful letters sent home to family in Indiana that illustrates what young war heroes were thinking about and wondering about. Ralph, even though he is far from home, wants to know about the gardens, the basketball tournaments and the everyday lives of his family. Co-author, Don Schneck, adds the history of the war which gives the reader a look at the sequence of events surrounding World War 2. This book is a glimpse into the life of one young country boy who just wanted to fly and to serve his country.

Terrible Jerusalem Atlas

This is an awful "historical" atlas of Jerusalem. Unless you are only interested in Jerusalem of the last 200 years you should avoid buying it. First off the photographs are poor resolution black and white images. Second, the maps are simple line drawings lacking in topographic detail. The biggest problem is that the historical component is primarily limited to the period from 1400 AD to the present (57 of 69 maps; 49 of the 57 are of Jerusalem from the 19th century onward). There is 1 map to cover ALL of Jerusalem from the Bronze Age to the end of the First Jewish Revolt in 70 AD. IOW over 3000 years supposedly represented on 1 map, and the map presented is only Herodian era Jerusalem. The illustration chosen to accompany this map is not even an image of one of the many archaeological finds from this period, but a print from 1701 AD (maybe it was public domain so no royalty had to be paid?). There is nothing in this atlas on Israelite Jerusalem of the Iron Age. I am not sure how one can claim this is a true historical atlas of Jerusalem when two thirds of its history is so inadequately represented. This is truly an embarrassing product for both Routledge and Gilbert. It is a shame that the far better balanced and illustrated atlas by Bahat is no longer available.
