Colonel John S. Mosby was one of the Confederacy's most effective and colorful cavalry leaders. Operating in Northern Virginia near Washington, D.C., Mosby's independent command waged guerrilla war behind Federal lines in what came to be called "Mosby's Confederacy". Mosby's Memoirs were written toward the end of his life and were published posthumously in 1917.
About the Author
John Singleton Mosby (1833-1916) studied at the University of Virginia and was admitted to the Virginia Bar in 1854. Upon the secession of Virginia he entered the Confederate military service and subsequently formed an independent cavalry unit which operated behind Union lines in a region that came to be known as “Mosby's Confederacy.” After the war, Mosby held several U.S. Government posts, including a consulship in Hong Kong.

A First Hand Account of the Civil War

If you enjoy Civil War history then you need to read the memoirs of one who fought in it. John S. Mosby, the Grey Ghost of the Civil War, has a very compelling story to tell. His rebuke of the criticism of Jeb Stuart for the defeat at Gettysburg is something I haven't seen in other accounts of that battle. The only drawback was the way Kindle does footnotes. The flow of the reading is disrupted. Other than that I enjoyed this very much

Interesting but not well written

Very interesting, and Mosby talks from a perspective not often addressed. However his writing assumes a lot of contemporaneous knowledge, which is generally missing for us today with the exception of history buffs specializing in the 1860's era. Also he isn't very well organized, frequently going off on curious, but confusing tangents.
